Academics
St. Aloysius School was established prior to 1912 by the
Sisters of Mercy in Bessemer, Alabama. The school has 3K,
4K and grades 5K-8 along with the subjects of Art, Music,
Computer, and Library Research. We have after school
clubs of Chinese, Children's Choir, Scrabble, Chess, Piano
and Voice Lessons. Grades 3-7 take the Iowa Basic Skills
Tests in April along with grades 4, 6, & 8 taking writing
assessments. We have small class sizes with certified
teachers. Our Pre-Kindergarten rooms have teacher aides.
We have completed accreditation through the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Spriituality
St. Aloysius School begins the day with the Saint of the day,
the reading of the Gospel, and the Suscipe Prayer. Daily, the
students have religion class, prayer in the classrooms and
prayer before meals. Weekly, the entire school celebrates
mass. Each week a different class is responsible for the
liturgy through the readings, singing and gift bearing.

Athletics
St. Aloysius School participates in Volleyball and Basketball.
Some students participate in Soccer and Football through
local organizations. Our 3rd & 4th grade Girls Volleyball team
took third place in 2009 and our 3rd & 4th grade Boys
Basketball team took first place in the Toybowl. Our other
teams placed in Toybowl and other tournaments as well.

Our school hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fridays we dismiss at 1:45 p.m.
